ALL THE STUFF

ALL THE STUFF

At the end of our first season last year

we were faced with where to store

all the boats things.

Living in a condo apartment means we have limited places.

And with a good deal of our space taken up with military gear

there wasn’t an extra square inch to put even a winch handle.

We compromised and took a contract at a local facility.

Now Francois is retired all that storage space is freed up

(and when I say ‘all’ you have to remember that it’s a small condo)

Several years ago we renovated our little den and installed Ikea Pax cupboards

to replace the outdated ’80’s closet.

One of the sales people suggested doubling the depth

(one installed in front of the other)

which invades about 12″ into the room but gives us so much more room inside.

…a place for all the Galley Kat things…
…and if we add one more shelf our Dometic cooler will fit too…
…there! all organized and secure until spring.
…R.E.D.’s heart removed and charging.
…bed springs – the only thing left onboard.

BOAT MODIFICATIONS: Galley Improvement

BOAT MODIFICATIONS: Galley Improvement

Last year I found that a port-side galley and a starboard-side refrigerator
was an awkward configuration.
So Francois has worked out a set-up that will make galley life onboard R.E.D.
a lot more convenient.
To do so we will have to make the P1 hold less accessible
but since it is the smallest storage area,
the plan is to store items infrequently needed there.
… our Dometic CF50…
…the plan…
…navigation tools are coming in handy…

…the base layer – access for the ‘hold’…

…base layer part II – cutting holes for the ‘important’ stuff…
…making sure the ‘important’ stuff fits…
…the middle layer – access for the power cord…
…the middle layer – allowing ‘breathing’ room…
…the middle layer – front view…
…tint primer…
…when one tint won’t do, try another…

…applying the trim…

…trap to access S1 hold…
…access to power outlet…

…holds all the ‘essentials’…

…extra containers to hold galley gear…

…new 12 V outlet with 6 amp fuse installed port side…
…installed astern to existing galley and secured with 6 anchor bolts…

…it works!!!…

…now I can’t wait to bring the rest of the galley gear onboard…
WINTERIZING: Preparing the Lines

WINTERIZING: Preparing the Lines

…I am now understanding when Francois suggested
at the beginning of the season we choose black lines…
…After several months, exposed to all types of weather and water conditions,
our lovely white lines were filthy…
…So once we had removed all that could be removed,
we brought them home for a good washing…
…separate laundry sacks kept them from becoming a tangled rat’s nest…

…a touch of fabric softener,
produced almost new-looking and very soft lines…
…each labelled…
(would I be able to remember which was which next year?)
…all ready for storage…
